American actor, writer, and musician David Duchovny was born in 1960 in New York. David lived with his mother after his parents divorced when he was 11.
As a teenager, David earned money working in many different jobs, mainly delivery and a lifeguard during the summer. After getting his master’s degree, he started preparing for a doctorate and added acting classes to his schedule. With that, David began getting work, including a TV commercial for beer and some Off-Broadway plays.
Soon after, he moved to Hollywood to get better roles. There he got some small roles, he played a transvestite detective named Denise on the TV show Twin Peaks.
In 1993, David got his biggest role as FBI Agent Fox Mulder on the show The X-Files, alongside Gillian Anderson, who played Agent Dana Scully. Later, he starred as Hank Moody in the comedy series Californication from 2007 to 2014 and in Aquarius.
David is also a director, writer, and musician. He wrote and directed the movie The House of D. and has written several fiction books.
On being the writer and director on House of D, David said, “When I wrote the script, I thought, ‘Oh, Pappass is such a great role, I wouldn’t mind playing Pappass.” And then I thought I can’t do that and direct at the same time. And the role of the adult boy, I kind of intuitively understood, just having written it, and I thought that the amount of days, which is maybe 8 or 9 days of shooting out of the 34, was doable for me. And actually, as an actor, I found it really interesting. My mind was so off of the performance that I think it gave me a certain kind of freedom and lack of self-consciousness, because I was thinking about a lot of other things.”
He has also released three music albums, Hell or Highwater, Every Third Thought, and Gestureland.
David married actress Téa Leoni in 1997. Together they have two children. The couple separated in 2008, reunited, separated again in 2011, and officially divorced in 2014.
