The World Cup’s most heartwarming viral fan moments
Every four years in the World Cup, countries compete head-to-head to win the biggest competition in the world. These wins are vital in raising a country’s soccer dominance around the world. But there are moments throughout the competition that are more than just soccer.
Here are eight of the most wholesome fan moments that have won our hearts so far in the 2026 World Cup.
@washingtonpost It’s Scotland’s first World Cup appearance in 28 years, and fans have been spotted throughout Boston reveling in the excitement of the tournament with song, chants and bagpipes. Bagpipes, beer, kilts
When Scottish fans arrived at the Boston Logan International Airport, the airplane’s beer supply was drained — the Tartan Army had drunk all the beer before even setting foot in the United States. This was just the start of Scotland’s takeover in Boston
Once Scottish fans arrived in Boston, they began showcasing their culture in the city. From playing bagpipes on the streets to taking over a Red Sox game in kilts, America fell in love with the Tartan Army right away. There’s something about Scotland fans in Boston that just makes sense.

South Korea and Mexico’s unlikely friendship
Even though South Korea competed against Mexico in the group stages, Mexican fans welcomed South Korean fans to their home. From South Korean fans learning the Mexican way of drinking to Gangnam Style dance-offs, both countries have become a memorable part of the World Cup so far. However, South Korea and Mexico’s friendship began long before the 2026 World Cup.
In the final round of the 2018 World Cup group stages, South Korea delivered a shocking win against Germany with two late goals. Even though it wasn’t enough for South Korea to move on to the Round of 16, their win knocked Germany out of the running, allowing Mexico to move on to the next stage of the World Cup.

New USMNT Anthem
When the U.S. men’s national team beat Australia in the second round of the group stage, there was hope in the air — a kind of hope that hasn’t resonated with U.S. fans in a very long time.
In 2018, the U.S. men’s national team failed to qualify for the World Cup. Despite surviving the group stage games in the 2022 World Cup, the U.S. men’s national team was unconvincing, drawing two and winning one game before getting eliminated by the Netherlands in the Round of 16.
So, when the U.S. men’s national team thrashed Paraguay 4-1 and beat Australia 2-0 in this year’s World Cup, there was a reinvigorated energy within American fans. The team had a level of dominance the country hasn’t seen in a long time. Following their win against Australia, fans sang to John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” in one of the loudest stadiums in the world. It was a sight for sore eyes as hope reverberated throughout the stadium.

Times Square Takeover
They said New York City is the place to be. Long before the World Cup came to the U.S., New York City’s sprawling ethnic neighborhoods were one of the reasons why the city became a cultural melting pot. And with one of the World Cup host cities a drive away from the Big Apple, World Cup fans from all over the world stopped by to visit New York City, with Times Square being a popular destination.
From Brazil and Morocco fans starting their own drumlines ahead of their highly anticipated match to Norwegian fans participating in their famous Viking row, Times Square became the epicenter of the World Cup. And with the final game taking place in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Times Square will only get livelier.

Europeans discovering American culture
While fans continue to embrace their own cultures and traditions in the U.S., many are experiencing a big culture shock when arriving in the country — how much bigger everything is.
Portion sizes that are meant for one can feed three people. Trucks that take up a third of a block. Grocery stores that serve not just food, but clothes, electronics and other miscellaneous things that aren’t usually found in foreign grocery stores. Fats. Sugars. Beers. While we Americans take these things for granted, watching fans from all over the world discovering this American culture is as wholesome as it gets.
@meninblazers One of the biggest oddities coming out of the World Cup has been the sheer number of instances in which fans have had heartwarming encounters 🙌 Thousands of fans have traveled from every pocket of the world, and the videos highlighting everyone’s good times keep pouring in ❤️ #fifaworldcup2026 #worldcup ♬ original sound – Men in Blazers
Cops catching World Cup fever
With excitement in the air, police officers all over North America have to be more diligent than ever to avoid any incidents. However, not even cops can avoid the World Cup fever.
When Scottish fans arrived in Boston, the city’s cops were having a field day — wearing kilts while on duty, learning how to play bagpipes and showing off their own soccer juggling skills. When Cape Verde earned their first-ever World Cup point with a historic tie against Spain, fans took to the streets to dance and celebrate, and Boston cops can be seen joining in. And before their friendly match against Brazil, Egyptian fans crowded in front of the hotel where the Egyptian team was staying, and a police officer was spotted hyping up the Egyptian team along with the fans.

Egypt’s first-ever World Cup win
When Egypt won its first-ever World Cup game in the country’s history against New Zealand, fans took to the streets of Vancouver to celebrate. It took the country 92 years to break the curse, but it all makes sense when Vancouver was buzzing with excitement. And in the center of the celebrations is Egypt’s best player of all time, Mo Salah.
Even through difficult times, Mo Salah was Egypt’s rock, bagging a goal and an assist in the game against New Zealand. Though the sun had already set in Vancouver, Salah could be seen carried on an individual’s shoulders, singing, dancing and chanting alongside Egypt’s most loyal fans.

Lawrence, Kansas, and Algeria’s unlikely friendship
Only hours after Algeria landed in Lawrence, Kansas, the city’s residents were more than thrilled to meet their new guests. Many residents from Lawrence had watched little soccer before the World Cup; moreover, they knew no players from the Algerian squad. But it didn’t matter for them, as Algeria choosing a smaller city over a larger, more renowned one was more touching.
In a viral video, an elderly man thanked Algeria for choosing his town to train in. The video melted the hearts of World Cup fans all over the world as it showed how the competition brought residents from all parts of the world together.

From Scotland in Boston to Algeria in Kansas, the World Cup brought some of the most unlikely groups of people together, and these moments will be looked back for years to come.
