10 Toys Parents Couldn’t Wait to Get Rid Of
Every generation has its beloved toys. Unfortunately for parents, some of those toys came with side effects such as endless noise, scattered pieces, mysterious stains, or a tendency to take over entire rooms. While kids often adored them, moms and dads sometimes counted down the days until the toys disappeared.
Many of these playthings became cultural icons despite driving adults up the wall. Here are 10 toys parents couldn’t wait to get rid of.

10. Play-Doh
Play-Doh has entertained children for generations, encouraging creativity and imaginative play. Kids loved shaping animals, buildings, and all sorts of colorful creations.
Parents often had a different perspective. The soft compound had a habit of finding its way into carpets, furniture, and clothing, where it could be surprisingly difficult to remove.

9. Glitter Craft Kits
Craft kits promised hours of fun and artistic expression. Unfortunately, they also introduced one of the most stubborn substances known to households everywhere: glitter.
Once opened, glitter seemed to spread throughout entire homes. Many parents joked that they were still finding sparkles months after the project ended.

8. Easy-Bake Oven
The Easy-Bake Oven became a childhood favorite by allowing kids to create miniature cakes and treats. The novelty of cooking independently made it especially appealing.
However, the tiny food portions, messy cleanup, and occasional kitchen mishaps sometimes tested parental patience. Even so, generations of children cherished the experience.

7. Super Soakers
Super Soakers transformed ordinary summer afternoons into neighborhood water battles. Children loved the oversized water guns and the endless opportunities for friendly competition.
Parents often found themselves dealing with soaked clothing, muddy yards, and dripping floors. As a result, many preferred when the water battles stayed outside.

6. Slime
Slime became one of the defining toy crazes of recent decades. Whether homemade or store-bought, kids loved stretching, squishing, and experimenting with the gooey substance.
Unfortunately, slime also found its way into carpets, upholstery, and hair. Cleanup often proved far less entertaining than playtime itself.

5. Bop Bags
Inflatable bop bags encouraged children to punch, push, and knock them over, only to watch them bounce back upright. The toys seemed indestructible and provided plenty of energy-burning fun.
Parents often grew tired of the constant thumping sounds that echoed through the house. The novelty sometimes wore off much faster for adults than it did for kids.

4. Hundreds of Tiny Building Blocks
Building toys inspire creativity and problem-solving skills. However, many sets included dozens or even hundreds of small pieces that somehow ended up everywhere.
Parents frequently stepped on stray blocks while walking through dark rooms. For many families, the pain of an unexpected encounter with a plastic brick became a shared experience.

3. Toy Drum Sets
Many children dreamed of becoming musicians, and toy drum sets helped fuel those ambitions. Kids loved creating their own rhythms and putting on performances.
Parents, meanwhile, often found themselves listening to endless improvised concerts. The enthusiasm was admirable, but the volume could be overwhelming.

2. Furby
When Furby debuted in the late 1990s, it quickly became one of the most popular toys in America. The interactive creature could talk, move, and gradually learn English phrases.
Parents soon discovered that Furby sometimes activated unexpectedly. Stories of toys speaking in the middle of the night became part of Furby’s lasting reputation.

1. Simon
Simon challenged players to remember increasingly complex patterns of lights and sounds. The game became a huge hit thanks to its simple concept and addictive gameplay.
Unfortunately for parents, those electronic tones often repeated for hours. Even decades later, many adults can still hear the familiar sequence of beeps in their minds.
