In the early hours of August 5, 1962, two doctors arrived at Marilyn Monroe’s house when a housekeeper called them after finding her bedroom door locked, only to discover that the 36-year-old actress had died from a drug overdose
The doctors had to break into Monroe’s bedroom after being unable to open the door. She was found lying with no clothes on, in her bed with an empty bottle of Nembutal sleeping pills.
After investigation, Los Angeles police said that Marilyn had ended her own life.
Marilyn was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926. Her mother, Gladys Baker, suffered from severe mental health issues and was eventually placed in an institution.
And since her mother wasn’t able to take care of her, little Marilyn spent most of her childhood moving between foster homes and an orphanage. Until in 1937, she went to live with a family friend named Grace McKee Goddard. However, when Grace’s husband was transferred across the country, they could not afford to take Marilyn with them, and to avoid returning to the orphanage, 16-year-old Marilyn married her 21-year-old neighbor, Jimmy Dougherty.
Jimmy was sent overseas with the Merchant Marines in 1944, so Marilyn took a job at a factory in California, that’s where she was discovered by a photographer and began her modeling career.
This job changed Marilyn’s life in all aspects, she got divorced, signed her first movie contract, dyed her hair blonde, and changed her name to start a new life as Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn suffered from depression and anxiety, which affected her career. Two months before she died, Marilyn had been fired by Fox Productions for failing to turn up on the set of the film Something Has Got To Give.
Marilyn was rehired by the film company again 4 days before she was found dead. Throughout her career, Marilyn made 30 movies, leaving her final film unfinished.
