Sofía Vergara, perhaps best known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. Sofia was born in 1972 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Sofía studied dentistry for three years, but her plans changed after a photographer discovered her on a beach in Colombia. After that, young Sofía decided to abandon her studies and start working in modeling and television.
Sofía’s acting career began in Latin American television in the early 90s, then after moving to Miami, she got her first English-language film role as Nina in the 2002 criminal comedy Big Trouble.
In 2014, Sofía officially became a U.S. citizen, announcing it on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“It took me a lot of time to get my residency even though I was working here for a long time, but it was fun, and I got all my questions perfect,” she said.
Sofía has an extensive career, starring in over 15 feature films like Hot Pursuit and Chef, as well as many television series and specials.
In February 2020, Sofía joined America’s Got Talent as one of the judges, on which she commented, “This is a new and exciting next chapter for me, and I’m extremely proud to be the first Latin judge on the show. I can’t wait to watch all the talent and have fun with all you guys!”
Sofía has been married twice, her second marriage was to actor Joe Manganiello. In 2023, the couple announced their divorce. In an interview with El País, Sofía talked about her relationship with Joe and why it didn’t last. She said, “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger, he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
Away from the screen, Sofía dedicates significant time to helping families in Colombia cope with cancer, drawing on her personal experience as a thyroid cancer survivor.
“I learned a lot during that time, not just about thyroid cancer, but I also learned that in times of crisis, we’re better together, and if we’re going to end cancer, it’s going to require a team effort.” Sofía once said.
