Two years apart, Brian Jones and Jim Morrison died on the same day, at the same age.
Not only that, but both died in water. Jones drowned in the swimming pool of his house under the influence of alcohol and drugs, meanwhile, Morrison was found dead in a bathtub due to heart failure.
Jones founded The Rolling Stones in 1962 and brought Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman to form the group. In their early years, Jones was the band’s leader, helping shape the Stones’ initial sound and style. Jones couldn’t commit to the band because of his problems with addiction and the complications in his personal life. All of that started affecting his work and his relationship with the band, until he was found dead in 1969 at his home.
The Lizard King, Morrison, founded The Doors in 1965 with Ray Manzarek and John Densmore.
Considered one of the most influential in rock history, Morrison recorded a total of six studio albums with the Doors. His career was later affected by alcohol dependency and untreated mental health struggles. Morrison’s final years were defined by chronic alcoholism and legal troubles. In 1970, Morrison was convicted of indecent exposure and profanity in Miami after a sixteen-day trial for his alleged indecent behavior during the show.
After that, Morrison relocated to Paris and decided to take a break from the music industry, not long after, he was found dead in his apartment due to heart failure with no autopsy performed, which led to many speculations about the actual cause. The medical report mentioned that the heart failure was possibly caused by excessive drinking, and many of his friends said that it might’ve been due to a drug overdose.
Ray Manzarek talked about Morrison’s last days in an interview with Paul Iorio. He said, “I don’t know, the last few years, Morrison was pretty tortured. I was kind of relieved for him in a way.”
