After a long struggle with depression, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in London.
Amy had 416mg of alcohol per decilitre in her blood. She was found dead fully clothed, with a laptop on her bed and empty bottles of vodka on the floor.
Born on September 14, 1983, Amy started singing at a young age. When she was 13, she got her first guitar and began writing her own songs a year later.
Her professional career took off in 2002 after signing with Simon Fuller’s management company 19 Entertainment.
Amy’s struggles were showing through her behaviors and the way she looked. By that time her album Back to Black was released, Amy had lost a lot of weight. Then, after marrying Fielder-Civil, she began behaving differently and started canceling a lot of shows.
Winehouse also made an appearance on a popular British television show while she was drunk, which also happened during several other performances.
In November 2007, Winehouse announced the cancellation of her entire tour, stating that she was taking the time to rest.
Amy’s relationship went through many ups and downs; she lost more weight and went through many attempts at drug rehabilitation, then got a medical diagnosis indicating early signs of emphysema.
Her husband, Fielder-Civil, was sentenced to jail for twenty-seven months for assault and perverting justice; they then got divorced in 2009.
Two years later, Amy tried to return to singing with a comeback tour, but it was canceled after she appeared drunk and in a bad state at the opening concert.
The following month, Amy was found dead.
Before her death, Amy recorded a duet, “Body and Soul” with Tony Bennett, which was her final recording.
Amy was also known for her generosity, frequently donating her money, music, and time to children’s charities.
In an interview, her bodyguard Andrew Morris talked about how Amy spent her last night. He said, ” She needed to appreciate she could sing because she was very humble. Even at her level, a person can never see it in themselves. They probably think, ‘Is the adulation real or not?’ But to me, Amy is the first star of the millennium.”
