The Chicago World’s Fair took place from May to October 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in the New World, the massive event covered 690 acres. It featured nearly 200 spectacular but temporary buildings in a neoclassical style, along with canals, lagoons, and exhibitions representing 46 countries.
The centerpiece of the Fair, held in Jackson Park, was a large water pool representing the voyage that Columbus took to the New World.
