5 weird and uplifting stories for Monday
Happy Monday! Here are five strange, funny, and heartwarming stories you might have missed over the weekend.
A tank in Denver, Colorado
Police were called to a Denver-area neighborhood when a tank showed up on Arvada Street; it turned out to be part of filming for an HBO reality show.
A video was shared to TikTok showing the tank rolling through the streets with a sign on it reading “Make Me Move It.”
It all started with a ten-year neighborhood fight between two neighbors, Chris and Mark, over a boat parked in a driveway.
After the tank was seen, both neighbors denied ordering it, and tensions quickly escalated when a man was on top of the vehicle shouting through a megaphone, and soon an angry neighbor pulled out a gun.
The story was that a production crew was filming the long-running argument for the HBO TV show Neighbors, but local police said the crew lacked a permit to film in the area.
A loose ram in Ohio city
Two days ago, officials in an Ohio city asked local residents and visitors to be careful after a ram was spotted wandering loose.
The City of Trotwood said in a news release that officials “are aware of an at-large ram that has been spotted moving through several areas of the community over recent days.”
The city warned people to keep a safe distance and not attempt to capture or feed the animal.
“Although the animal may appear calm or non-threatening, rams are powerful livestock animals that can become unpredictable, particularly when frightened, startled, cornered or approached,” the release said.
Seattle’s inconvenience store
A former 7-Eleven in the Seattle area has been turned into an Inconvenience Store. The store is an art exhibit and a store for nostalgic goods, like bags made from old Cheetos and Lays packages, beeswax egg candles, pre-tangled USB cables, and even a ‘landline iPhone’ that plays U2’s ‘Vertigo’ when answered.
The store’s organizers wrote on social media. “Art is inherently inconvenient. In a society that rewards efficiency and mass production, artists do things the hard way.”
The magical books trolley
Ms. Maze, who calls herself a “radical street librarian,” has gone viral on TikTok for delivering free books to children in the Baltimore area using what she calls a magical trolley.
Ms. Maze started the Storybook Maze on social media in 2024, the day she was reading to her nieces on her front stoop when other kids gathered to listen, which inspired her to keep reading and eventually come up with the magical trolley idea.
A raccoon boot camp in Mississippi
In Pass Christian, Mississippi, a wildlife rescue center runs a raccoon camp to teach baby raccoons who lost their mothers essential survival skills
The raccoons learn to dig for food, open acorns, fish in shallow water, and swim.
The staff even use specific warning sounds to teach the animals how to climb trees to escape predators.
Before being released into the wild after six months of care, the raccoons take a final test to learn to avoid traps and humans, and they even get a graduation ceremony.
