Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will keep sending free books to kids
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the free book-gifting program she founded in 1995, will keep mailing books to kids.
The program has become a beloved detail in communities across five countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland, sending a free, age-appropriate book every month to any registered child from birth until their fifth birthday.
“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams,” Parton once said.
Illinois teen built a memorial for Butch, the beloved therapy dog

“Some people may have never had the privilege to be able to talk to him or be able to be able to see him. He was still there. He was a part of the staff at the elementary school, and he was there for everyone,” Luparell said.
Logan Luparell’s Eagle Scout project came after he lost a family dog. Elementary art students painted rocks to complete it. The dog’s owner, Linda Schmitt, a school social worker, said it brought back how much the kids loved him.
“He was a great part of our school in our district. We would have him present to greet students in the morning or say goodbye in the afternoons.” Schmitt said.
St. Louis animal shelter waived fees for National Dog Day
The St. Louis County Animal Shelter Foundation covered adoption fees at the county’s Adoption Pet Center, plus a satellite event at a local business, in honor of National Dog Day.
They shared a post on social media to invite people to the Dog Day event and to encourage them to adopt.
“To celebrate the day and all of our pups at the shelter, the Friends of the St. Louis County Animal Shelter Foundation is SPONSORING ALL DOG ADOPTION FEES!
That means you can come find your best friend and take them home at NO COST to you!!” the post reads.
More animal shelters in Texas are clearing out their shelters
The Longview Adoption Center is among many shelters across the country that participate in a national adoption campaign called Clear the Shelters.
“In a dream world, we would be in such a good place in Texas in general for animal welfare that there is not a need for large facilities at all.” Longview Adoption Center Executive Director Jenna George said.
Clear The Shelters campaign is still currently running through August 31, 2026.
Other shelters like Beaumont Pets Alive and the SPCA of Texas have reported massive spikes in adoptions due to waived fees, moving dozens of animals into homes daily.
36 rescued border collies are recovering in Florida
Thirty-six Border Collies removed from a home with really bad conditions at Palm City, are now in the care of the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
“They’ve come a very, very long way. I can’t believe from when they’ve started to where they are now,” said Sarah Fisher, Humane Society of the Treasure Coast Spokesperson.
The dogs began to recover, and soon they’ll be ready for adoption.
