“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Jane Goodall.
Born in London on April 3rd, 1934, Dr. Goodall was a renowned ethologist, conservationist, and animal behavior expert.
Known for her pioneering 45-year study of wild chimpanzees in Tanzania, Dr. Goodall has spent her life changing the way we understand animals and our relationship with the natural world.
Her journey began with a childhood passion for animals. In 1960, without a formal college degree, she traveled to the Gombe Stream Game Reserve in Tanzania, then began studying chimpanzees in the wild, under the mentorship of the famous anthropologist Louis Leakey,
She observed chimpanzees‘ behaviors, such as making and using tools, a behavior previously thought to be unique to humans. She also discovered that chimpanzees have complex social lives, exhibiting emotions such as joy, sadness, and even aggression.
Because of her work, we now know that humans and chimpanzees share a deep biological and emotional connection.
At 91 years old, to celebrate her birthday, Dr. Goodall appeared on “The Jane Show” to share an exclusive message with her supporters. She emphasized that while the world faces many environmental challenges, there is still a reason for hope.
Jane believes that “every individual matters” and that “every individual has a role to play.” Her birthday isn’t just about her own life; it’s about inspiring others to take action for the planet.
Dr.Goodall passed away at age 91 on October 1, 2025. The Jane Goodall Institute confirmed she died peacefully in her sleep in Los Angeles, CA, while on a speaking tour.
Her mission continues through the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI). The institute works globally to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. One of its most successful programs is “Roots & Shoots,” a youth-led movement that Dr.Goodall started in 1991. This program encourages young people in over 60 countries to lead projects that help people, animals, and the environment.
The Jane Goodall Institute invites everyone to celebrate “Goodall Day” by honoring her values. You can participate by sharing your own stories of hope, donating to conservation efforts, or simply spending time in nature.
