The global ecommerce market amounts to $3.5 trillion in sales so far in 2019, which is more than double what it was just five years ago ($1.3 trillion in 2014). That number is expected to grow to $4.9 trillion by 2021, according to a report from Shopify, which ranks Asia as the top market for ecommerce ($831 billion), with North America a relatively distant second ($552.6 billion).

Methodology
This list of the world’s top shopping websites comes from the market intelligence company SimilarWeb. Their team of analysts has a unique method of crunching numbers guided by a principal called “methodological pluralism.” That is, because all methodologies have their strengths and weaknesses, they consult more than one algorithm and data source (drawing on hundreds, from four categories: global panelists, information provided directly to SimilarWeb, partnerships and public data sources), then they merge the data. Each of the 50 ecommerce sites listed here is followed by four categories of data: “change,” which shows its change in ranking from July 2019 (this list is from August 2019); “average visit duration,” which shows the average time spent on the site per visit; “pages/visit,” which shows the average amount of pages viewed per visit; and “bounce rate”, which indicates the percentage of people who leave the site after viewing just one page.
The online store making the biggest leap in rank is Snapdeal, an Indian shopping site that climbed 22 spots.
