In 2019, more than 1.7 million American families will deal with a cancer diagnosis, according to the American Cancer Society. There are dozens of types of cancer, and despite the fear the word itself can inspire, many types are readily treatable, even curable. Cancer rates in the United States vary from state to state, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintains these statistics. We’ve gathered them here. Click through to see the rates of new cancer in every U.S. state.

Alabama
In Alabama in 2015, there were 26,443 new cases of cancer. For every 100,000 people, 449 cancer cases were reported. The same year, there were 10,354 people who died of cancer. For every 100,000 people in Alabama, 175 died of cancer.

In Alaska in 2015, there were 2,743 new cases of cancer. For every 100,000 people, 397 cancer cases were reported. The same year, there were 978 people who died of cancer. For every 100,000 people in Alaska, 161 died of cancer.
