Foreclosure rates are through the roof in these states

According to ATTOM, the nation’s leading property data provider, 35,602 properties recorded foreclosure filings in September 2025, a 20 percent increase year-over-year. Foreclosure starts in March 2026 were up 21 percent from a year earlier.

The states below are ranked by foreclosure rate using ATTOM’s September 2025 data. Rates are expressed as one filing for every X housing units.

The lower the number, the worse the rate.

Florida

Florida recorded one foreclosure filing for every 2,182 housing units in September 2025, with 4,621 total filings out of 10,082,356 units. Top counties: Hardee, Highlands, Osceola.

Delaware

Delaware recorded one filing for every 2,417 housing units, with 541 filings out of 1,307,338 units. Top counties: New Castle, Kent, Sussex.

Nevada

Nevada recorded one filing for every 2,417 housing units in September 2025. Top counties: Lyon, Clark, Churchill.

Indiana recorded one filing for every 2,697 housing units, with 1,095 filings out of 2,953,344 units. Top counties: Clinton, Vigo, Pulaski.

South Carolina recorded one filing for every 2,883 housing units, with 833 filings out of 2,401,638 units. Top counties: Lexington, Kershaw, and Allendale.
