Misprinted IDs in Michigan with a random man’s face on it
More than 8,000 Michigan residents who recently applied for or renewed their driver’s license got an ID with a stranger’s face smiling back at them and a different birth date, Jan. 12, 1967.
And on the back, there’s another mistake: the words “last name,” “first name,” and “middle” are printed instead of the resident’s real name.
A statement issued Saturday by the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office said the misprints were caused by a vendor error and affected only a batch of licenses and IDs printed Aug. 26, 2026.
The office said it sent out corrected cards and that anyone who received a misprinted card will automatically receive a new one in the mail.
Puppy yoga classes
Clear The Shelters continues its effort to help pets find loving homes; some shelters decided to bring adoptable puppies into yoga studios to give people opportunities to meet them outside traditional adoption places.
These yoga classes also help build awareness, recruit volunteers, fill foster homes, encourage donations, and sometimes lead to forever homes.
During a yoga class in Chicago, Maddy Marino found her match, Ernesto, a 2-month-old puppy from an animal rescue called One Tail at a Time, even though she wasn’t looking for one.
“I always say every kiss, pet, pat, interaction teaches these animals that they deserve to be loved,” said Ravyn Robbins, founder of Rescue Puppy Yoga.
Saturday Night Live announces its 52nd season
SNL will return for its 52nd season on Saturday, Sept. 26, with NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson hosting and pop group Katseye making their debut as musical guest.
The following week, Dakota Johnson will host for the third time, with musical guest Turnstile on Oct. 3, followed by Shane Gillis on Oct. 10, with musical guest Rosalía.
The first Girl Scout Cookie for dogs!
One of America’s most famous cookie lines is expanding with a new addition: cookies made especially for dogs.
“Inspired by Girl Scouts around the country who have advocated for expanding the cookie lineup to meet the diverse needs of their communities, Patch Pals and Girl Scout Sparkables offer new ways for more girls, families and beloved pets to participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, while staying true to what makes the tradition special,” reads the statement.
A replica of a Hoosier cabinet in Nappanee, Indiana
A giant 30-foot-tall (3-story) replica of a Hoosier cabinet was unveiled in Nappanee, Indiana, to celebrate the historic American kitchen icon.
The replica has stairs leading to a loft that overlooks Coppes Commons, the site of the original Coppes Napanee factory that has been converted to an indoor marketplace, artisan hub, and museum.
Though Hoosier cabinets have long since fallen out of fashion, this replica celebrates the cabinet’s place in kitchen history. Owner and president of Coppes Napanee, Wesley Mast, said, “The cabinet brings us another level of attention and branding and makes this place more of a destination than just a pass-through.”
Goodbye sweet tree
After the severe thunderstorm last week, D.C. residents went to mourn the massive tree in Dupont Circle Park that split in half in the sweetest way.
This tree, because it is in Dupont Circle Park, falls under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. Over the weekend, residents started creating a memorial for the tree, leaving notes and tacking them to the stump.
A pile of paper and a cup of thumbtacks were left at the base of the tree for anyone to write their own message.
A note signed, “Random Park Goer,” read, “Goodbye and goodnight, sweet tree. You will be missed.”
The Department of Urban Forestry has been working through the weekend to address the fallen trees and branches across the city.
