Jimothy, who likely has a congenital spine condition, had gone viral after a July 14 video captured him roaming the streets.
“I think one of the reasons why he’s captured so much attention is he shows a certain resilience in getting by and even thriving, given that deformity,” Ferguson said.
Viral Video Raises More Than $174K for Disabled Veteran
James Blair, a Navy veteran, worked in the military between 1980 and 1990 before reentering civilian life as a fuel mechanic.
Despite hardly being able to walk, he’s been working at John Wayne Airport since 2006. Having recently turned 64, Blair couldn’t retire as his income helps support his elderly mother’s hospice care.
After a woman named LaCinda Thackeray saw him walking across the tarmac on a flight out of Los Angeles, she captured a video and posted it on her TikTok with a caption asking if anyone knew who he was.
Comments started asking her how to help him. The woman was able to get in touch with him through his boss at John Wayne Airport.
With the help of his boss, they drove to Blair’s house and helped him set up a GoFundMe that Thackery could share on her TikTok.
After receiving a check worth $174,000, Blair said, “I have a hard time working to pay bills, so other people probably have the same problems. When they’re giving money they really can’t spare, that amazes me. I’m just blown away.”
Too small for a wheelchair
A tiny kitten named Gelato showed up at Cincinnati Animal CARE, with a spinal injury that left his back legs unable to support his weight.
Little Gelato didn’t want to give up and started showing some signs of recovery. The weak legs didn’t stop little Gelato’s curiosity; the only problem was he physically couldn’t actually walk around, and no wheelchairs were small enough for this tiny little patient’s body.
That’s when Veterinary Assistant Lead Mallory Smith and Cincinnati Animal CARE’s medical team decided to make him one.
The Gelato-sized chair was made of literally everything: wooden rulers, zip ties, tape, and a set of tiny Hot Wheels cars.
First kid to Read 100 Hours to Shelter Animals
A Florida boy, Nehemiah Turner, 11, became the first child in the Jacksonville Humane Society’s Pawsitive Reading program to reach 100 volunteer hours.
Turner received a certificate from the Jacksonville Society in appreciation of his efforts. Turner hopes his reading helps the animals feel calmer and, eventually, find their forever homes.
“I went up there with my book, and I sat down with this dog named Auggie. I started to read to him, and after we had to leave, I started to cry, because I didn’t want to leave the humane society,” Turner said.
Disney donates 18,000 ‘Toy Story 5’ toys for kids in children’s hospitals
After the release of Toy Story 5, and as part of Disney’s partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation, Disney turned hospital spaces into immersive screening events for patients and their families. The film became available to patients in more than 400 children’s hospitals globally, including more than 300 across the U.S.
Disney distributed more than 18,000 toys and 34,000 character-inspired hospital gowns to children and families.
