When we’re sitting around on our couches eating potato chips, and one of them happens to be shaped like the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima, most of us say, “Oh, that’s neat.” Then we devour it and get on with our lives.
There is, however, another category of person. They see such things, their eyes promptly light up, and they ask, “How can I make money off of this?” Indeed, candies and other snack foods that come off the assembly line in an irregular shape can sometimes win big bucks on such auction sites as eBay. Snack items can also command high prices if they have an interesting backstory. Here are some extreme cases.

1. The forever Cheeto

Most of us don’t even look at each individual Cheeto as we shovel them into our face holes, but maybe we should. This particular Cheeto came out in the shape of an infinity symbol (or a number eight if you turn it 90 degrees), and the lucky person who found it is asking a very reasonable $1,000 for it. Good luck with that.

2. Gummy logjam

Sometimes when you’re eating Gummy Bears you’ll get lucky and happen upon two of them fused together, as if they endured a science experiment gone wrong. This particular auction is for eight of them all fused together as though they’re acting out the movie “The Human Centipede.” Give the seller a mere $10,575 (or the best offer), and it can be yours.

3. Stop, or I’ll fire my Cheeto!

Americans really like guns, so it’s not surprising that when a snack food is erroneously manufactured in the shape of one, the resale market lunges into action. This Cheeto in the shape of a handgun is selling for $1,000, and we’re sure whoever buys it will have a blast (wink wink).

4. Cinnamon Toast Nike logo

When you’re eating cereal in the dark at three in the morning, you may be unable to appreciate any piece whose design is so unique as to be lucrative. Luckily, the person who found this Cinnamon Toast Crunch in the shape of the Nike logo was paying close attention, and today it can be yours for $2,000. But is the Ziploc bag free?

5. Misprinted Flaming Hot Cheetos

When a comic book is printed with an error and refers to its Kryptonian main character as “Sooperman,” collectors spring into action and snap it up for big bucks in the hope of flipping them for even bigger bucks. This phenomenon is also transferrable to Flaming Hot Cheetos, as in the case of this bag, which has the product name upside down. The seller is asking a mere $2,500 for this snack food curio. Don’t let this bargain get away!

6. Sweet tangy BBQ Dorito in the shape of a hat

If, in the immortal words of Linda Evangelista, you don’t even get out of bed for an auction that’s less than $10,000, your ship has come in. Or rather, your hat. This Dorito, which is the shape of the hat six-year-olds make out of a sheet of paper in arts and crafts, is selling for that very amount.

7. One Cheeto to rule them all

This seller has a Cheeto in the shape of the letter “O,” as in “osmosis” or “occupational.” Great, but who’s going to spend $349.99 on that? The answer is “nobody,” but if you tell them it’s actually in the shape of the Ring of Power that Frodo the Hobbit was tasked with casting into the fiery chasm of Mount Doom in “Lord of the Rings,” you may get some takers.

8. Fully puffed Lay’s potato chip

If you can’t afford to pay $10,000 for a single irregularly shaped snack food, fret not. There are plenty of unique permutations for the person on the budget, such as this Lay’s potato chip, which is fully puffed. We don’t see the big deal either, which is why we agree with the low and attainable $75 asking price.

9. Is that a Cheeto or a grazing giraffe?

It’s a Cheeto, but due to some providential manufacturing error, it came out looking like the long-necked African mammal. While most of the people auctioning off irregularly-shaped snack foods tend to favor big, round numbers like $10,000 for their goods, this seller has chosen to set a peculiar asking price of $485.99, maybe because they thought asking $14.01 for it was usurious.

10. Goldfish clump

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, that stinky snack food that all kids under five love for some inexplicable reason, is a great buy for parents on a budget. Unless of course, you’re in the market for a single Goldfish that’s actually five Goldfish smushed together, for which a seller on eBay is asking a very reasonable $30,000.

11. Cheeto shaped like video game monsters

What do you get for the holidays for the gamer who already has everything? You get them this Cheeto in the shape of characters from the first-person adventure game “Amnesia: The Dark Descent.” The $3,000 asking price may seem a bit steep, but when your delighted gamer teen fishes theirs out of the stocking Christmas morning, you’ll be glad you had to miss a rent payment.

12. Deformed Rold Gold pretzel

Who knew there was so much money in single snack food items that didn’t come out looking like they were supposed to? This Rold Gold pretzel looks like a cross between Cthulu and one of the monsters from John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” making its $5,000 asking price an irresistible bargain.

13. The Cheeto watching over heaven

Though it happened seven years ago, many of us are still traumatized by the senseless passing of the gorilla Harambe at the Cincinnati Zoo. If that number includes you, try to channel your grief into prayers for Harambe-shaped foods, such as this Cheeto. The opening bid is $500, but if you don’t want to take a chance on some lucky bidder swooping in at the last minute and outbidding you, you can buy it now for $1,000, guaranteeing this very special Cheeto is yours.

14. Tangy chili Cheeto, chicken foot edition

We don’t want to shame anybody, but we really are curious about who the person is who sees a Tangy chili Cheeto in the shape of a chicken foot being sold for $20,000 (or best offer) and decides that they want in. If you are such a person, we recommend getting it from this seller, who has a 100% positive rating from buyers, meaning that your high-end Cheeto will be packed for shipping with love.
