These cities offer the biggest homes & lot sizes without giving up the urban lifestyle

Finding the perfect blend of spacious living and access to urban amenities seems like a dream come true, but it’s out there. If you crave room to roam while enjoying the vibrant lifestyle of a bustling city, there are a number of cities that fit the bill. 

According to a recent study by Storage Cafe, Southern cities are some of the best for space while living in the city. The site ranked 50 cities based on the size of homes the median size of the lots. Plus, they considered prices, incomes, safety, and commute times. These were the cities that came out on top, and yes, a lot are in the South.

Austin, Texas

In Austin, you’ll find many homes on lots over 0.2 acres. Houses can average around 2,500 to 3,000 square feet. The city’s famous live music scene is just a short drive away, and outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Neighborhoods like Tarrytown, Barton Hills, and Zilker are within walking distance of numerous restaurants, food trucks, and local shops.

Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte boasts an average lot size of over 0.3 acres and homes ranging from 2,800 to 3,200 square feet. The city’s greenways and parks offer recreational opportunities, and there’s a growing brewery scene. Sought-after neighborhoods like Myers Park, Dilworth, and SouthPark are within a short drive of cultural venues, dining establishments, and shopping districts.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh offers large lot sizes over 0.3 acres and homes that are between 2,800 to 3,200 square feet. The city’s research institutions and historic districts are easy to access without too much time in the car. Oakwood, Hayes Barton, and Five Points, known for their historic charm, are within walking distance of local restaurants, cafes, and boutiques.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville provides spacious living, with lot sizes over 0.3 acres and houses around 2,800 to 3,200 square feet right in the city. Neighborhoods like Germantown, 12 South, and Sylvan Park offer plenty of living space while still being within walking distance of restaurants, live music venues, and boutique shops.

Jacksonville, Florida

Jacksonville boasts a diverse range of neighborhoods, from the historic charm of Riverside and Avondale to the beachfront living in Jacksonville Beach. The city offers a rich cultural scene, with theaters like the Florida Theatre and an array of museums. Dining options abound, especially along the St. Johns River. Average lot size here is about 0.2 acres, and homes are about 1,820 square feet.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta’s neighborhoods are as varied as its residents. Omaha’s neighborhoods feature spacious homes and plenty of greenery. Homes average at around 2,430 square feet, and lot sizes are approximately 0.2 acres. Dundee offers historic charm, while West Omaha provides modern living. The city’s cultural scene is vibrant, with the Joslyn Art Museum and Omaha Community Playhouse. Dining options range from classic steakhouses to trendy bistros, and shopping can be found nearby at Village Pointe and Westroads Mall.
