Sen. Dianne Feinstein hospitalized: When are we just too old to keep working?

Ever thought about peacing out and retiring early? Same.

Retirement’s kinda like life’s way of saying, “Hey, you did your thing. Chill now.” But, guess what? There’s a whole bunch of folks way past the typical retirement age who just can’t let go.

Take Sen. Dianne Feinstein for example, who just had yet another health scare at the age of 90, but is reported to be healthy and doing well. We won’t be surprised to see her back in her office working asap!

There are tons of other famous names in their 80s, even 90s, that are still going strong. Why’s that?

Well, maybe the thought of hanging up their hats and facing the idea that someone else could step into their shoes isn’t so appealing. Or perhaps they just can’t picture a life without their work.

So, here’s the lowdown on 21 folks who are way past the usual retirement age but aren’t showing any signs of stopping.

1. Willie Nelson, 90

Country singer and activist

Willie Nelson turned the big 9-0 in April 2023, but man, he’s still rocking the outlaw country vibe like a champ! Remember his 2018 album “Last Man Standing”? I guess he predicted his own fate. Just before his 90th, he dropped “I Don’t Know a Thing About Love” and gave us a heads up about another cool album, Bluegrass, coming in September 2023. It doesn’t look like he’s stopping anytime soon.

If you’ve ever jammed to “Crazy” or been blown away by “Red Headed Stranger,” you know this guy’s a legend. And even though we’ve lost some big names in country, Willie’s out here keeping the outlaw spirit alive and kicking. He’s not just resting on his old hits; he’s churning out new albums like it’s nobody’s business. And talk about commitment – even after some health hiccups that made him cancel a few shows, he’s still touring like a trooper. Plus, his songs? Still full of that sharp wit and deep feels.

2. Warren Buffett, 92

Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway

Warren Buffet could have taken early retirement a long time ago if he wanted. But at 92, with a jaw-dropping net worth of 114.4 billion, he’s still actively serving as the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and is involved in numerous charitable endeavors.

He began his investment career by setting up several business ventures, one notably with Benjamin Graham. By 1956, he founded Buffett Partnership, Ltd. and later took over a textile business named Berkshire Hathaway. This company, under Buffett’s guidance, evolved into a diverse holding firm. Since 1970, he’s been at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway as its chairman and holds the title of its biggest shareholder.

People often call him the “Oracle” or “Sage” of Omaha, thanks to his unmatched investment track record and ability to grow his wealth. What stands out about Buffett is his commitment to value investing and his surprisingly modest personal lifestyle, even with all his riches.

When it comes to retirement, Buffet has made his stance clear. He once remarked to Business Insider, “If I quit today—I see these people. They spend a whole week planning their haircut. That is not my idea of living. I would rather do this than anything in the world. My Social Security check is coming every day. I don’t need this.”

3. Clint Eastwood, 92

Actor and director

Even at 92, Clint Eastwood isn’t ready to ride off into the sunset. Although he hinted at retiring from acting in 2008, the celebrated actor-turned-director produced eight films during his 80s. Now, he’s prepping for another project, “Juror 2.” By its commencement, Eastwood will be 93, making him one of the most senior filmmakers actively producing. There’s buzz that this might be his swan song in cinema, but considering his relentless dedication, that seems doubtful.

From captivating audiences in classics like “Dirty Harry” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” Eastwood seamlessly transitioned to the other side of the lens, impressing many with his directorial flair.

The film community didn’t just notice; they lauded his efforts. Eastwood has secured several Oscar nods for Best Director, with films like “Letters From Iwo Jima” and “Mystic River” standing out. Furthermore, he didn’t just get nominated; he clinched two Best Director Oscars for his work on “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby.” Impressively, both films also clinched the top spot, taking home Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Burnett is hailed for reshaping TV with her pioneering variety series, “The Carol Burnett Show.” Running a notable 11 seasons on CBS, it was her stage to flaunt her unmatched comedic skills. With iconic roles such as the cantankerous “Mama” and quirky “Eunice”, and with the support of comedic greats like Harvey Korman and Tim Conway, she consistently won viewers over with her charisma and humor.

But her brilliance isn’t limited to TV. Burnett has also dazzled on the big screen and on Broadway, leaving indelible marks with roles in movies like “Annie” and stage productions like “Moon Over Buffalo”.
