Some states hold designer labels, fine dining, and a luxurious lifestyle in high regard. Others would break their ankles in a pair of Louboutins and prefer stuffing their outdated iPhone into a handbag they scored as an Amazon Deal of the Day.
Gold and silver experts SD Bouillon took a look at Google search data using 50 keywords related to an upscale lifestyle, along with designer copies and cheaper alternatives, to determine which states have the “bougiest” taste and which ones don’t think twice before buying a knock-off brand.
The following are the top five states where people value high-end fashion, food and festivities.

5. Nevada

Home to some high rollers, Nevadaians embrace the finer things in life. Whether they’re prancing around the strip in designer shoes or booking a suite at Caesars Palace, folks in this state err on the side of bouge.

4. New Jersey

Designer brands over dupes are the way in New Jersey. You might picture cheap flip-flops flapping along the boardwalk along the Jersey shore when you think of this state, but adjust your mental picture to include a few Dior bags, and don’t get it twisted.

3. Hawaii

Listen, if you’re going to live on the only U.S. island paradise, you better embrace all of the finer things in life. Hawaiians know the drill. According to SD Buillon, the state is the least receptive to knock-off products.

2. California

If you didn’t know California would either be first or second on this round-up when you clicked on this headline, we don’t know what to tell you. This state is a breeding ground for expensive tastes. Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Boulevard, high-class restaurants, spas around every bend, red bottomed heels and Gucci bags all over the place. Cali is bougie and that’s all there is to it.

1. New York

You know the license plate game, where you’re riding in the car down the highway and you see how many different state’s license plates you can spot? Next time you’re in NYC, look around to see how many different designer brands adorn the people walking around. You’re sure to find quite a few in the nation’s bougiest state, which SD Buillon calls the state with the biggest affinity for designer labels.

Dupe devotees

Not everyone in America is interested in keeping up with the Joneses, much less the Kardashians. These are the five states where designer knockoffs and value-priced necessities are preferred over bling and baubles.

5. Montana

Gucci, schmucci. From Google search data, SD Bouillon deduced that Montana is one of the states least interested in designer brands. These folks aren’t ashamed to rock a knock-off.

4. South Dakota

South Dakotans embrace all the dupes and say “no thanks” to designer labels. It seems that for the most part, they’d rather wear a bargain than Balenciaga.

3. Kentucky

Kentuckians aren’t looking to make their pockets hurt over a ring. The state has the highest Google search volume for discount and dupe engagement rings, specifically dazzlers from Walmart and those made with vermeil gold rather than solid gold.

2. Wyoming

Why bother, amirite Wyoming? Dupes are just as good as the real thing as far as folks in this state are concerned (except they might be even better since they’re cheaper.)

1. West Virginia

Well, well, well. West Virginia is the land of dupes, so it would seem. We imagine there aren’t many Jimmy Choos clacking down the average sidewalk in West Virginia, and we also imagine West Virginians hold not a single qualm about it.
