The new world of artificial intelligence has taken us by storm. We can ask AI to create trip itineraries, plan diets and even do our jobs (depending on the occupation). There are so many time consuming things we no longer have to do because AI can do it for us!
But what about something more fun? What about asking AI to breathe some fresh life into old marketing slogans?
It turns out if there is one thing AI isn’t all that good at, it just might be coming up with truly memorable brand slogans. This kind of ad copy should be catchy and remind consumers of what the company stands for (think “plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!”). It’s amazing when just one person comes up with something so iconic, but it would be downright stupifying for AI to re-create something as timeless and appealing as “Just Do It.”
After putting both the original slogans and AI’s rewrites in front of humans to determine which was better, the AI crashed and burned on these 15 famous slogans.

Visa

Original: “It’s Everywhere You Want to Be”
AI: “Making Money Move”
Unless Visa is partnering up with Cardi B, this just does not work.

Walmart

Original: “Save Money. Live Better.”
AI: “Making Life Affordable, One Cart at a Time.”
This isn’t terrible. It reminds customers what Walmart stands for. The only reason why it’s a failure is because it is so. Incredibly. Boring.

Taco Bell

Original: “Live Más”
AI: “Spice Up Your Life”
If Taco Bell was only known for its Volcano Menu, this could work. But seriously, Taco Bell is so much more than spice. Grilled Cheese Burritos are eats to live more for.

Skittles

Original: “Taste the Rainbow”
AI: “Taste the Technicolor”
Technicolor is the process of producing a movie in color. I can see what AI was thinking (calculating?), but “Taste the Rainbow ” is far better. Kids can relate the candy to a happy rainbow, and that is the target audience for a candy company.

PizzaHut

Original: “No One OutPizzas the Hut”
AI: “Box of Joy, Slice of Heaven”
This is cute, AI. However, no one OutSlogans the Hut.

Nike

Original: “Just Do it”
AI: “Elevate Your Game”
Nike’s famous “Just Do It” perfectly embodies what a slogan should be. It is appealing, catchy, reminds us of what the company is for, and it’s arguably one of the most timeless phrases. AI’s robot brain can’t compete.

Mastercard

Original: “Priceless”
AI: “Opening Doors to Distinction”
“Priceless” is understandable for any company involved with money. Is it great? No. Is it catchy? Also no. “Opening Doors to Distinction” is just plain bad. Talk about giving up, AI crashed and burned for MasterCard’s slogan re-fresh.

McDonald’s

Original: “I’m Lovin’ it”
AI: “Savor the Moments. Taste the Magic.”
This isn’t a fairytale. It’s McDonald’s. Hate to break it to AI, but nobody is “tasting magic” at McDonald’s, unless your magic is greasy, cheap, fast food.

Levi’s

Original: “Quality Never Goes Out of Style”
AI: “Denim Done Right”
I have a pair of Levi’s in my closet that have been in my family for generations. Yes, generations. That is quality that never goes out of style. “Denim Done Right” is great, but it doesn’t compare to the accuracy of the original.

KFC

Original: “It’s Finger Lickin’ Good”
AI: “Where Every Bite is a Delight”
Starting to seriously think we need to feed AI fast food. “Where Every Bite is a Delight” screams bona fide, even sterling. KFC is fast food, not a Michelin star restaurant. Lick your fingers and enjoy your fried chicken.

Grammarly

Original: “Great Writing, Simplified”
AI: “Write Right, Right Now”
Very clever, AI. However, this is just confusing. Grammerly’s original slogan is simple, easy to read, and perfectly reminds us of what the company stands for.

Gillette

Original: “The Best a Man Can Get”
AI: “Sharper than the Rest”
At first, I liked AI’s slogan for Gillette. I soon realized that sharp razors are scary, especially when coming into contact with skin. Let’s just stick to talking about clean shaves.

Burger King

Original: “Have it Your Way”
AI: “Taste Royalty”
This makes sense. I like “Taste Royalty.” But, it just doesn’t compare to the jingle “BeeeKayyy You Can Have it Your Way!!” Seriously catchy, and seriously stuck in my head for hours.

Coca-Cola

Original: “Taste the Feeling”
AI: “Bubbles of Bliss”
Coca-Cola’s original slogan makes it bigger than the drink. AI’s slogan loses, as every soda has “Bubbles of Bliss”.

Booking.com

Original: “Booking.yeah.”
AI: “Unleash your Wonderlust”
I bet AI’s slogan would hit home to anyone who had Tumblr in the 2010s. Unfortunately for AI it’s 2023, and “booking.yeah.” is smooth and cool.
