Kansas Inmates To Help Settle School Lunch Debt
Inmates at the Norton Correctional Facility in Kansas decided to help students at their local school district who have difficulty paying for lunch.
A group of about 30 incarcerated men, part of their prison’s Reaching Out From Within program, donated $4,267 to cover school lunch debt at Norton Community Schools.
“Students and families, young families, older families, grandmas and grandpas that have grandkids today that are raising them on fixed income … They have to make choices on what to pay, and sometimes lunch accounts was the secondary choice for the week or for the month,” Norton Community Schools superintendent Corey Roy said.
Dog brings toys to intruder during home break-in
In San Diego, security video showed a friendly golden retriever inviting a burglar to play and bringing him toys.
And that wasn’t the worst part; homeowner Dante Rowley watched it all with his family in real time through their home security cameras for about 30 minutes.
Inside the house were two dogs, Oli, a long-haired dachshund, and Nash, a golden retriever, and Nash appeared so excited to make a new friend.
“Nash is not the greatest guard dog. We thought that he would be barking at people and he did the exact opposite,” Rowley said
The suspect was arrested and also had outstanding warrants or charges related to unrelated incidents, according to Rowley.
The “Guttural Scream at the Sea” event
More than 100 people gathered in San Francisco to release their frustrations by screaming all together at the ocean.
The event was organized by local resident Danielle Egan, who said, “I felt like I needed a really good scream, and I think it’d be more fun with other people. There’s a lot of things to scream about in this day and age, so I figured we’d just get a lot of different people together and scream,” Egan said.
The event also had a winner, Olivia Gugliemotto, who won first place with a scream measured at 121.9 decibels.
A “Cigarette Surfboard”
A new documentary The Cigarette Surfboard, captured a project in Santa Cruz, California, and it focuses on surfboards, called Ciggy Boards, that are created using discarded cigarette ends.
“It’s about surfers getting up, standing up for the ocean, and giving a voice to something that otherwise can’t speak for itself,” said filmmaker and surfer Bud Judkins.
The team collected about 100,000 cigarette ends from California and Hawaii beaches and made them into about 14 surfboards.
Squirrel rescued from stands at OSU game
Police responded to the football stadium at Ohio State University to rescue a squirrel that went into the stands during Saturday’s game against Ball State.
“This little guy found himself inside the stadium and was understandably a little scared and overwhelmed,” the post said.
The police used a beer box to catch the squirrel and transport it out of the stadium.
3-year-old East Texas hero
After helping save her mom during a medical emergency, 3-year-old girl Noemi, is being called a hero
After her mom, Aiden Wilkie, went into a grand mal seizure, Noemi “Emi” Vatavuk FaceTimed her grandparents nearly 700 miles away, and they helped her call 911.
“I helped mommy? Yes, you did. You did. You did a huge help for mommy. I helped mommy,” Emi on the 911 call.
“The only thing I do remember from everything was the fact that she was rubbing my hair. I could hear briefly, ‘Mommy, it’s gonna be okay,’” her mom said.
Emi was honored by first responders with a certificate, a teddy bear and a stethoscope.
