Cat who gave birth to 7 kittens the night she arrived at a shelter has a family of her own now
The ginger cat who gave birth to seven kittens the night she reached an animal shelter has been adopted.
Poppy (formerly Momma Kitt)
LoveMeow first shared her story in April, when the kittens were only hours old, and she was still being called Kitt. Her name is Poppy now, and she went home this past weekend with a family of four!
Adopted
“I have the best news to report,” Lori White, a foster volunteer with Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, shared with LoveMeow. “Momma Kitt was adopted this past weekend! Her new name is Poppy!”

She had arrived at the shelter as a stray with no history anyone could trace, heavily pregnant and running out of time. Before a foster placement could be arranged, she gave birth on the shelter floor to seven kittens.
Welcome home
Lori brought all eight of them home the next morning, and Kitt spent the weeks that followed relocating her litter to whichever corner she judged better than the one she had been given.
Poppy
She was never once careless about any of it. Mother cats are easy to overlook in a room full of kittens, older and tired and arriving attached to a story about somebody else. Someone came looking for this one anyway, and did not need convincing.
Meet the family
There is more still ahead of her. Once she has settled properly, she will meet the other cat and the dog she now shares a house with, and the two daughters who have already claimed her as theirs.
Brave momma
“I am proud of her for being so brave,” Lori shared. “I always get extra excited when the momma cats get picked.”
She arrived at that shelter with seven kittens and nothing else. She has a name of her own now, and a family that chose her for herself.
